Why are thumbnails not showing in analytics and reports?

Sometimes, the thumbnails of your content (posts, reels, stories…) may not appear in the Analytics section or in Metricool reports.

Here are the most common reasons.

Meta

On any social network managed by Meta (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads), the link where the thumbnail is stored may expire, making it impossible to display later.

Instagram

  • The information from stories is only synced while the story is active.
  • If during that time the Meta API does not return the preview, later it cannot be retrieved, because the URL where the image is stored expires.
  • In Premium plans, once we obtain the preview, we save a copy so it can be displayed in the story list.
  • Note that images from reposted stories cannot be retrieved.

LinkedIn

For documents, LinkedIn does not provide thumbnails, so they cannot be displayed in Metricool.

What to do if you don’t see thumbnails

  • In analytics: if it doesn’t appear, you can request a manual sync (available in Premium plans).
  • In reports: first check if the thumbnail appears in analytics. Reports take the information directly from there.
  • In Looker Studio: the same as with reports — if it doesn’t appear in analytics, it cannot be displayed in Looker Studio.
