What to do if your social media data isn’t updating in Metricool
Steps to update your social media data
Metricool automatically syncs your social media data every 24 hours during the night. However, if you notice that your metrics or posts are not up to date, there are a few steps you can take to fix it, such as refreshing the connection and, if necessary, renewing permissions.
Why is each network synced separately?
Even if you group several networks under the same brand to stay organized, each connected social network works independently because:
- It has its own API connection to the original platform
- Each platform sets its own data limits
That’s why refreshing Instagram doesn’t automatically update Facebook or X. You need to repeat the process for each network you want to sync.
Remember: brands are only a way to organize your profiles in Metricool. Data syncs always work at the individual social network account level.
⚠️ Refreshing the Instagram connection
Instagram has two different connection types in Metricool. To correctly recover your previous data, it’s essential that you reconnect using the same connection method that was originally used.
Before refreshing or reconnecting your Instagram account, check which connection type you’re using and make sure to repeat the same process.

Step 1: Refresh the connection
This is the first and most common step to update recent data. When you refresh the connection, a sync of approximately the last 2 months of data starts automatically.
How to do it:
- Select the brand from the top dropdown menu
- Go to Connections or access directly at https://app.metricool.com/brands/connections
- Locate the social network with outdated data
- Click the X next to the account name to disconnect it
- Click Connect and log in again
- Accept all requested permissions
Wait about 30 minutes and check if the data has been updated.

Step 2: Revoke and renew permissions (if the issue persists)
If after refreshing the connection and waiting a few minutes the data is still not updated, the issue may be related to access permissions. Fully revoking them from the social network and granting them again resets the authorization more thoroughly.
Full process:
- Go to the authorized apps settings of the affected social network
- Find Metricool in the list of connected apps
- Revoke or completely remove access
- Go back to Metricool and reconnect the social network from Connections
- Accept all requested permissions
