How to set up notifications
What types of posts require manual publishing?
In general, you can schedule and autopublish content to all social networks from Metricool. However, there are exceptions for Instagram and TikTok where some posts must be published manually via a notification.
For TikTok, this happens when the content doesn’t meet the requirements for auto-publishing, for example, if you want to add music outside the Top 100 trending songs or use app-specific features like effects and filters. Business accounts can add the Top 100 trending songs with auto-publishing.
In Instagram's case, manual publishing is required for Stories posted by Creator accounts, those with interactive elements like links or mentions, or videos that include trending music. Any content that doesn't meet the platform’s autopublishing conditions must be posted manually.

Set up notifications
You can receive your publication notification by e-mail or by our mobile app (recommended option).

Push notification via mobile
To set up your push notifications on your mobile device, follow these steps:
- Download our app on your iOS / Android phone.
- Login to Metricool to link your device with your account.
- Access the planner > notifications
- Select "On my mobile device" from the drop-down menu.
- Enable the device
- Click on Save
đź’ˇ We recommend using the Save and send a test option to make sure you receive the notifications correctly
From now on, if you have the autopublish option turned off, when it's time to publish, you will receive a notification. Click on the notification and the media will be downloaded to your gallery and the text will be automatically copied to the clipboard and redirect you to the Instagram app. Follow the usual process of posting from Instagram.
E-mail notification
If you prefer to receive notifications in your email, follow these steps:
- Go to the scheduler > notifications
- Select "In my e-mail" in the drop-down menu.
- Enter your e-mail account
- Click on Add
- Click on Save
⚠️ Some browsers do not allow the download of multimedia content, so the process may be less fluid. We recommend that you opt for mobile notification

Keep in mind that notifications are configured individually in each user account from “My settings”.
- After making changes, click Save to apply them.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Can I receive notifications on multiple mobile devices?
Yes. You can link multiple mobile devices to your account. To add a new device, download the Metricool app on that phone, log in, and activate it from Planner > Notifications > "On my mobile device". All enabled devices will appear in the list.
Are notifications available on the FREE plan?
Yes. Push and email notifications are available on all plans, including the FREE plan.
Why am I not receiving notifications even though I set them up?
The most common reasons are:
- Your app is not updated (update to the latest version)
- Notification permissions are disabled on your phone
- Do Not Disturb mode is enabled
- There are duplicate linked devices (remove old ones)
- Your device name has changed
Check this article to troubleshoot notification issues.
Can I disable error notifications by email?
No. Automatic error or publishing failure notifications cannot be disabled, as it’s important for you to be aware of any issues with your scheduled posts.
Will I receive notifications when my posts are published successfully?
No. Metricool only sends notifications for posts that require manual publishing (Instagram and TikTok) and for errors or failures. No success alerts are sent when a post is auto-published correctly.
Are there notifications for Inbox messages or comments?
No. Currently, notifications are only available for the Planning feature (manual posts and errors). There are no notifications for Inbox messages, comments, or mentions.
What is the difference between a push notification and an email notification?
Push notifications (mobile) are the recommended option because they automatically download media content to your gallery, copy the text to your clipboard, and redirect you directly to the Instagram or TikTok app. Email notifications are less seamless because some browsers do not allow direct file downloads.
How do I add a new mobile device if I changed phones?
Download the Metricool app on your new phone, log in with your account, then go to Planner > Notifications > "On my mobile device" to enable the new device. If the previous one still appears, you can remove it from the list.
Why are publishing notifications still sent if the user no longer has access to the brand?
Planner notifications are not linked to a user's access to the brand, but to the email or device configured to receive the notification.
For this reason, notifications may still be received even if the user no longer has access.
To stop receiving them, see the section Disable notifications.
Device identification
When you enable the device in Metricool, it will be registered with the name set on your mobile. This is the name you will see later when selecting where to receive notifications for manual posts.
If you haven’t customized the name, the default model name will be shown (for example, “iPhone” or the device model), which can make it harder to identify the correct device.
⚠️ If you change the device name afterward, the change will not automatically update in Metricool. In that case, you’ll need to remove the device and set it up again.
How to check or change the device name:
On iPhone (iOS):
- Go to Settings
- Tap General
- Tap About
- Tap Name
- Enter the name you want to use
On Android:
The path may vary depending on the manufacturer
- Go to Settings
- Tap About phone or Device information
- Tap Device name
- Edit the name and save the changes
