Character Limits on Social Media

Knowing the character limit for each social media platform is essential to optimize your posts and ensure your message reaches your audience in full. Here’s a summary of the current limits by platform:

Social NetworkCharacter Limit
Facebook16,192
Instagram2,200
Threads500
X (Twitter)280 / 25,000 (X Premium)
Bluesky300
LinkedIn3,000
Pinterest500
TikTok2,000 (auto) / 2,200 (manual)
Google Business Profile (GBP)1,500
YouTube500

💡 Remember, you can edit by platform to adapt your content to each platform's limits.

👀 Considerations

On X (formerly Twitter), links always consume 23 characters of the total limit, regardless of the actual URL length.
If you have any type of premium account on X (Twitter), you can post the same character limits allowed natively. Note that if you activate a Premium account, X (Twitter) may take up to 24 hours to reflect the account update in Metricool.
When posting directly on a platform, the character limit might be higher. This is because the limits set by a platform's API (?) are often stricter than those applied natively.

(?) What is an API? It is the access provided by one application (a social network, in this case) to another application (like Metricool or another third-party tool) to interact with its features and data.
