Common troubleshooting when importing CSV into Metricool

What to do if your CSV file doesn’t import correctly in Metricool

If you imported a CSV file and notice that some posts are ignored, dates don’t load correctly, or images don’t appear, here are the most common causes and how to fix them.

➡️ Some posts are ignored during import

If you see the message "X posts ignored" when importing your CSV, check these points:

**Non-public or incorrect media links: **Image or video URLs must be public and point directly to the file:

  • Google Drive: The URL must end in view?usp=sharing and permissions must be set as public Editor.
  • Dropbox: The URL must end in ?dl=0 and be public.

Required fields are empty: Some networks require specific fields. For example:

  • YouTube needs a category (e.g., MUSIC) and a playlist if you’re adding it to one.
  • Instagram needs the post type (POST, REEL, or STORY).

Incorrect audio bitrate: Instagram rejects videos with audio above 128 kbps. Adjust the bitrate before uploading the video.

Make sure all TRUE/FALSE columns are filled in correctly. Leaving cells empty in platform columns doesn’t cause issues, but writing "false" in fields like "First Comment Text" can publish it as text.

➡️ The date or time doesn’t import correctly

If dates or times appear incorrect or empty when importing:

The CSV format doesn’t match Metricool’s selector When importing the file, Metricool asks you to select the date and time format. Make sure you choose exactly the same one you used in your CSV (for example, YYYY-MM-DD and 00:00:00, or MM/DD/YY and AM/PM).

Use Google Sheets to create your CSV. The date and time format is more consistent and it exports automatically with UTF-8 encoding, avoiding issues with emojis and special characters.

➡️ Images or videos don’t load

If your media previews don’t appear or fail during import:

Incorrect Google Drive or Dropbox link format:

  • Google Drive: must end in view?usp=sharing and have Editor permissions.
  • Dropbox: must end in ?dl=0.

The link isn’t public: Check that anyone with the link can access the file. For Google Drive, share it with "Anyone with the link" and Editor permissions.

The link doesn’t point directly to the file: The URL must lead to the file (.jpg, .png, .mp4), not a preview page or folder.

In some cases, carousel previews may take time to load. If you set up the Picture Url 1, Picture Url 2, etc. columns correctly, wait a few minutes before assuming there’s an error.

➡️ The brand name doesn’t work

If you fill in the "Brand name" column but the post isn’t assigned to the correct brand:

The name must match exactly: Metricool is case-sensitive. If your brand is called "MiMarca", typing "mimarca" or "mi marca" won’t work. Copy and paste the exact name from your brand list in Metricool.

➡️ The file gets stuck or takes too long

If the import process slows down or stops:

Files that are too large: Although there is no strict limit, files with a high number of posts may become slow or even fail. Split your CSV into blocks of 50 posts for a faster and more stable import.

Browser issues: Clear cache and cookies, or try in an incognito window. If you use a VPN, disable it temporarily.

➡️ Other common errors

"FALSE" shows up as the first comment: "First Comment Text" is a text field, not boolean. Type the text you want as the first comment here, or leave it empty if you don’t want to add one. If you write "false" or "FALSE", Metricool will publish it literally as the comment.

The carousel only shows one image: To create carousels, use separate columns: Picture Url 1, Picture Url 2, Picture Url 3, etc. Don’t put all URLs in a single cell.

If you’re still having issues after checking these points, make sure your CSV file meets all formatting requirements and required fields described in the full import guide.
