Mention and tag other accounts
Mentioning Accounts on Social Media
Mentioning other accounts is a key strategy to increase visibility, foster collaborations, and generate more interactions on your posts. A simple practice with great benefits.

Mentions when scheduling from the calendar
From the Metricool planner, you can mention other accounts in the text of your post. To mention, add the @ symbol followed by the username (e.g., @metricool).
Some networks make the process easier by offering a list of suggestions when you type @username, but if this is not the case, make sure to type the username correctly. See the details below:
- Auto-complete available: Facebook, Bluesky, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn.
- Manual mention: Instagram, Threads, and TikTok.
Instagram and X (Twitter) also allow you to tag users in images. Check the section "Tagging Users in Images" for more details.
In general, you can mention all types of accounts, but pay close attention to the following considerations. Remember to use the edit by social network option to adjust your mentions and tags for each platform.
👀 Considerations
Through the API, you can mention up to 3 pages; personal profiles are not available.
- Mentioning: To mention a profile in the text, the account must have the option to allow mentions enabled (preferably from anyone), regardless of whether it’s set to public or private. Check the details here.
- Tagging: To tag an account, the Instagram account must be public, as private accounts cannot be tagged through their API for third parties. When planning, keep in mind that the API allows up to a maximum of 20 tags per post, including products.
When mentioning profiles or pages on LinkedIn through Metricool, it's important to consider two things: the type of account you're posting from and the conditions the account you want to mention must meet.
What type of account you're posting from
The behavior of mention suggestions in Metricool depends on the type of LinkedIn account connected:
- Personal accounts: you'll see suggestions of profiles you're connected to.
- Company pages: you'll see suggestions of followers of the page.
- In both cases: you can mention any profile or page by typing the full @ of the user or company name.
Requirements for a personal profile to be mentioned
If you want to mention a personal profile, that person must have the following LinkedIn settings enabled:
- Allow mentions in posts and comments. See settings.
- Allow visibility outside of LinkedIn, so the profile can appear in search engines or external tools. See settings.
Note: Company pages do not have these restrictions and can always be mentioned.
We are experiencing difficulties tagging some profiles on LinkedIn that cannot be located via the API, even though they can be tagged directly on LinkedIn. This is because LinkedIn's API only supports profiles with en_US (US English) as the default language. LinkedIn has acknowledged this issue but has not provided a timeline for resolution. Here you can find LinkedIn’s API documentation.
As a temporary solution, affected profiles should add en_US as a language to their LinkedIn profile. Learn how to do it here: Create or delete a profile in another language.
Tagging Users in Images
On Instagram, tagging in images is available for posts and reels (not supported for video carousels or stories) and requires the auto-publish button to be enabled:
- Click on the three dots of the attached file.
- Select "Tag people on Instagram."
- Click on the image or the button to tag Instagram users.
- Add usernames separated by commas or spaces. Instagram does not allow user search, so ensure the username is correct or copy and paste it.
Once tags are added, you can select and move them to adjust their position.
💡 Remember that to mention or tag, the Instagram account must be public as private accounts do not allow mentions via third-party APIs. When planning, note that the API allows a maximum of 20 tags per post (including products).
X (Twitter)
For X (Twitter), the option to tag in images is within the post creation window under "Twitter settings":
You can tag up to 10 users.
- Click on tag users.
- Type the username and select it from the suggestion list (type at least 3 characters).
- Finish by clicking Add.
Users who do not exist or who have not allowed tagging will be ignored when posting.
Mentions when scheduling from CSV
When scheduling posts with a CSV file, mentions work the same as in the calendar, except for Facebook and LinkedIn, which require a specific format to apply correctly.
- Facebook: Use the page ID
To mention a Facebook page, you need its numeric ID. You can find it in the Page Transparency section:
- Click on the page name in the feed or search for it.
- Click the About button in the page's menu bar.
- Click Page Transparency in the Information section.
- Find the Page ID and apply this format in your CSV:
@[page ID]
Example: The Metricool page is mentioned like this: @[104306905456758]
- LinkedIn: Use the account URN
On LinkedIn, mentions require the complete URN of the company page or personal profile you want to mention, making it a more complex process. Find the ID in the page's source code:
- Open the LinkedIn page or profile.
- Access the source code:
- Windows: Press
Ctrl + Shift + I
(or right-click → "Inspect").
- Mac: Press
Cmd + Option + I
(or right-click → "Inspect").
- Find the ID: Use
Ctrl + F
(Windows) orCmd + F
(Mac)
- For companies, search for
company:
- For personal profiles, search for
member:
- Copy the number that appears afterward.
- Apply the format in your CSV:
- Companies:
@[urn:li:organization:ID|Name]
- Personal profiles:
@[urn:li:member:ID|Name]
👀 Important: LinkedIn is case-sensitive, so ensure the name is written exactly as it appears on the platform.
Example: For Metricool, the mention would be: @[urn:li:organization:91711355|Metricool]
.
