Why does Instagram show a different location on my account?
How Instagram account location works
You may have noticed that Instagram shows a different location on your account, even if you haven't changed any information like your address or country. This can be confusing, especially if you manage accounts from different countries in one place.
Here's why it happens and whether it's related to Metricool.
Why does Instagram show a different location?
Instagram determines the location of an account based on its usage and recent activity, not by the contact information or the country where it was created. This includes:
- The IP address most commonly used to access the account.
- The regional settings of the device and the app.
- Frequent activity from a specific region.
This information is collected to display an estimated location, visible in some areas like professional profiles.
Is it related to Metricool?
No. Metricool does not change or influence the location that Instagram shows on accounts.
Even if you set a different time zone in Metricool (e.g. Mexico), that setting does not affect the public location shown by Instagram. This information is handled directly by Instagram based on where and how the account is used.
Also, although Metricool connects to Instagram via its official API, this API does not provide any control or access to view or modify the estimated account location. That data is not part of the fields available through the API, so no external tool can access or change it.
Can I change the location manually?
No. Instagram does not allow you to manually change the estimated location shown on accounts. The only way this location might change is if there's a long-term change in usage behavior. For example:
- If you start managing the account again from another country.
- If the account's main access pattern or location changes.
Conclusions
- Instagram shows an estimated location based on activity, not on profile data.
- Factors like IP, region, and frequent use influence this estimate.
- Metricool has no role in this setting and cannot access that information via the API.
- You cannot force or manually change the location shown by Instagram.
