How to connect your website or blog to Metricool
How does it work?
You need to install our Metricool tracking code to collect the data from your website or blog. The data will be collected from that moment onwards; it would not be possible to retrieve previous data.
This is a JavaScript code that runs in the browser and makes an asynchronous call to a Metricool service that records the visit. The country and the viewed page are detected through the IP.
The tracker does not execute cookies.
Once the website is connected you will be able to immediately visualize the visits in real time and in 24 hours you will be able to consult the analytics of your website.
It is possible that the name of the website is not displayed correctly when connected, but it will be updated in 24 hours.
👀Considerations
- Canva websites do not support Metricool's tracking code.
- The tracking pixel option does not collect all blog metrics.
Connect a Website
To connect your website with Metricool:
- Click the top-right menu and select Connections.
- Click Connect website.

- Choose the type of connection you want to use: WordPress, JavaScript tracking tag, or Tracking pixel

- Copy the tracking code generated by Metricool.
- Add it to your website by following the instructions for the option you selected.
- Go back to Metricool and click Verify connection.
- To complete verification, visit your website so Metricool can detect the installation.
If you’ve completed the connection and no data appears after 24 hours, check this article I have connected the web / blog but no data appears
Next, we’ll explain how to complete the connection based on the option you selected.
Option 1: WordPress
For WordPress.org. You must follow these steps:
- Install the official Metricool plugin. You can download it from the following link or get it from the Plugin section of your WordPress site.
- Navigate to Settings -> Metricool and insert your unique tracking ID that you find on Metricool.
Option 2: JavaScript tracking code
Use this option to connect your website if you use a platform such as Shopify, Wix, Blogger, Prestashop, SitioSimple, or Squarespace.
Add the Metricool code in a global location on your website, such as the header (<head>), footer, or custom code section, so it loads on all pages and you can measure visitor activity.
Check the steps based on the platform you use:
Option 3: Tracking pixel without JavaScript
Use this option if your website does not allow you to add JavaScript code, as is the case with WordPress.com.
Keep in mind that this option has limited functionality: Metricool will only be able to collect visits and geographic data.
Blog Connection
When you connect the website, if the blog has an RSS Feed configured, Metricool will automatically detect it and a new box will appear with the blog connection and the feed URL underneath.
We will display the history of blog posts based on the configuration of your RSS feed. In other words, limits can be set to display a list (for example, 50 posts); our code will be limited to reading the information we obtain.
In case it does not connect automatically or the feed is not configured at that moment, it can be done manually from the connections panel.

Manage your website connection
Edit Domain Name
Once the connection is complete, you can edit the website domain by clicking the pencil icon. Keep in mind that editing only changes the displayed name but will not modify the website associated with the installed tracker. Refer to the section Change the connected website if you need to modify it.

Exclude own visits
Own visits can be excluded from the Real-Time menu > Exclude visits.
If there are multiple IPs, you need to exclude visits from each of them.
Additionally, in the same menu, you have the option to display the complete URLs and enable auto-refresh.

Disconnect a website
If you need to disconnect a website, then you must remove our tracking code from that website. It may take a few days to complete the disconnection if any residual visits occur due to the code being stored in the browser's cache.
Change the connected website
If you want to monitor another site, you can use the same code for the new site, you must delete the code from the website that you no longer want to monitor beforehand.
Please note that the data history of the disconnected website will not be deleted. Also, it is normal that for a couple of days some data will still be collected from the disconnected website.
Remember that when you change the tracking code to another website, you will be able to see the real time visits immediately, ohwever, you'll need to wait for a period of 24 hours before accessing the analytics for the new website. The domain will also be updated after 24 hours.
