Looker Studio Connector Upgrade Considerations
Considerations on Metricool Looker Studio (former Data Studio) Connector upgrades
We are constantly working on improving the Metricool connector by adding new dimensions, metrics, data families, and performance and management improvements to enhance user experience.
Each new update or change is released after a testing process to ensure that the reports you may have created will not break. However, some of the structural changes may generate incompatibilities or minor bugs.
Let's review which scenarios you may encounter when there is an upgrade:
- When we fix metrics that are not showing the correct information
You will see the changes in new and existing reports.
- When we change internal Looker Studio formulas or critical properties of a particular metric.
You will need to edit the data source and refresh the fields for the changes to take effect. Sometimes, Looker Studio interprets the previous metric disappearing and creates a new metric with the same name. If this happens, the charts that included that metric will stop working. We recommend copying the report to have a guide if you need to reconfigure a particular chart. If you do not refresh fields, your reports will continue to work as before.
Rarely you'd need to replace the existing data source with a new one using the same configurations as the old one. Here you can find a small tutorial on how to do it.
- When we add new dimensions, metrics, or complete data families.
You need to edit the data source and refresh fields to include this new data in your report.
Once you do it, the new data will be available to add to your reports. The previous chart should keep working as usual. However, if there is any other change, like the ones mentioned above, some graphs may break. Therefore, the recommendation is always to copy the report to keep it as a guide.
- When we make significant structural changes, such as removing an entire family of data or redesigning specific connectors.
The reports you have made will continue working even if they use no longer available data. However, only the new version will be available if you refresh fields or add a new data source.
