Differences in Facebook Followers

How are data synchronized?

We synchronize "Followers" and "Likes" metrics on a daily basis through Meta's API. Meta consolidates data in the Pacific Time Zone (GMT-8), while Metricool uses the time zone configured in your account. Therefore, a difference may be observed. This difference does not imply any data loss but may result in consolidating data on different days due to the time zone difference during data consolidation.

Temporary drops in follower metrics

Sometimes, you might notice a sudden drop in the follower chart, creating a noticeable spike. This is usually due to a temporary glitch in the data provided by Facebook. From what we've seen, these spikes are temporary: Meta typically corrects the metric over time, and once updated, the chart in Metricool reflects the real data again.

Insights on New Experience Pages

Statistics on New Experience Pages are less detailed than in the classic version. It is no longer possible to see the evolution over time of "Followers" or "Likes." In June 2023, Meta disabled classic pages, making all Facebook pages New Experience Pages.

Until that moment, the information Facebook provided to third-party tools like Metricool was the same as that offered for classic version pages.

That said, it's essential to note that Facebook has historically maintained a discrepancy between the number of "Followers" or "Likes" shown on the public page and the statistics.

Below is an example using our own Facebook page.

In the second image from Facebook statistics (classic version), you can see that the consolidated follower data (solid graph) is 4089. There is a significant difference from what is shown publicly. In fact, the followers displayed publicly are very similar to the non-consolidated data (dashed graph), which is a projection. In reality, this increase will never materialize.

Global pages

We are currently looking at changes from Facebook to show followers and likes for pages that have a global page. Learn more details about these pages in this link from Facebook's help center.

From Metricool we synchronize the information that Meta provides through its API. You can check the data from the statistics in the Business Manager:

Access here
Select Facebook and the period of time to analyze.
In the performance section click on Followers.

The detail of Likes and Followers provided by Meta will be the data shown in Metricool. Please note that there may be a slight variation due to the time zone difference in the data consolidation of both platforms. Meta works in the San Francisco time zone while Metricool consolidates data in the time zone you have set in your account settings.
