Because it is a toggle, Metricool remembers the last position you set. If you turned it on for a previous post, it stays on for all future posts until you switch it off.
How Planning settings work
When you create a post in Metricool, some settings are remembered for future posts and others reset each time. The difference comes down to one simple rule: if it has a toggle, it persists.
Settings that persist: toggles
Any setting controlled by a toggle — whether in Global Presets or in the Create post panel — stays active until you change it again. Some examples:
Auto-publishing (Instagram, TikTok)
Allow comments (TikTok)
Apply new Pin format (Pinterest)
Use URL shortener (Global Presets)
Show link preview (LinkedIn)
These are just a few examples — the same rule applies to any other toggle you see in the composer.
Note: When adding a URL to a LinkedIn post, the link preview toggle may activate automatically. We're aware of this behavior and working on it.
Settings that reset: non-toggle fields
Fields that require manual input — like SmartLinks or Campaign Dashboards — don't carry over. Each new post starts empty, so you fill them in only when needed.
What this means in practice
Always review the composer toggles before saving a new post, especially if you recently switched a setting for a one-time manual publish.
Before saving a new post, check your toggles — especially if you recently changed one for a specific post. Any toggle you adjust applies to this post and all future ones.
See Why does my post appear as "sent" in Metricool and not auto-published? for more details about auto-publishing behavior.
If you already have posts scheduled as manual
There is no bulk action to switch existing posts from manual to auto-publishing. If you need to change them, the most practical options are:
Edit them one by one from the List view in Planning, where it's faster to move through posts than in the calendar view.
Delete and reschedule in bulk — export your CSV as a reference, delete the manual posts, and reimport them. Before doing this, make sure the auto-publishing toggle is actually on. The easiest way to confirm is to create a draft post, enable the toggle, and save it — Metricool will remember that position for all subsequent posts. You can then delete the draft and proceed with the import. Keep in mind that the CSV import template does not include an auto-publishing field, so the toggle state at the time of import is what applies.
FAQs
Why does link preview keep turning on automatically on LinkedIn?
How do I set a toggle OFF for all future posts?
Turn the toggle off before saving your next post. The composer will reuse that off position for future posts until you change it again. It is not a separate saved default; it simply carries forward the last position you used.
Is the toggle position permanent or saved as a default?
No. There is no "save as default" action. Toggles start from whatever position they were in for your last post. Change a toggle at any time and the next post will start from that new position.
Why did my setting change after my last post?
Toggles carry their last used state into the next post. If you changed a toggle for a one-time post, you need to switch it back manually so it does not apply to future posts.
Do all planning settings persist between posts?
No. Only settings controlled by toggles persist. Any field that requires manual input, like SmartLinks or Campaign Dashboards, resets to empty for each new post.
