Why does Instagram show a different location?

Instagram determines the location of an account based on its usage and recent activity, not by the contact information or the country where it was created. This includes:

  • The IP address most commonly used to access the account.

  • The regional settings of the device and the app.

  • Frequent activity from a specific region.

This information is collected to display an estimated location, visible in some areas like professional profiles.

No. Metricool does not change or influence the location that Instagram shows on accounts.

Even if you set a different time zone in Metricool (e.g. Mexico), that setting does not affect the public location shown by Instagram. This information is handled directly by Instagram based on where and how the account is used.

Also, although Metricool connects to Instagram via its official API, this API does not provide any control or access to view or modify the estimated account location. That data is not part of the fields available through the API, so no external tool can access or change it.

Can I change the location manually?

No. Instagram does not allow you to manually change the estimated location shown on accounts. The only way this location might change is if there's a long-term change in usage behavior. For example:

  • If you start managing the account again from another country.

  • If the account's main access pattern or location changes.
