What happens when a social network is disconnected in Metricool

When a social network is disconnected from Metricool—whether manually or because the social network revoked permissions—your data and scheduled content behave differently. Here's what you need to know.

Synchronized data is preserved

Disconnecting a social network does not delete the data Metricool has already synchronized. Your historical analytics, past posts, and metrics remain stored in Metricool and will be accessible again once you reconnect the account.

Each brand in Metricool has a unique identifier (blog ID). As long as you reconnect the social network to the same brand, your previously synchronized data will be available again.

If you connect a different account after disconnecting, only data collected from that point forward will belong to the new account. Previous history remains tied to the original account. If you need to connect a different account, the correct approach is to delete the brand and create a new one with the desired connections. See How to add or delete brands to your account for details.

Scheduled posts in the Planner

Your scheduled content in the Planner is not lost when a social network is disconnected. However, there's an important limitation:

  • Posts remain in your calendar — they won't disappear.
  • If the network is not connected when the scheduled time arrives, the post cannot be published and will show an error.

This means you should reconnect the social network before any scheduled posts are due to be published.

Worried about your scheduled content? Your posts remain safe in the Planner during a disconnection. If you want extra peace of mind, you can export your calendar as CSV from the Planning section before making any changes. This way you'll have a backup copy of all your scheduled posts that you can re-import later if needed. See How to manage your calendar in Metricool for instructions.

Important: If you connect a different account to the same brand after disconnecting, your scheduled posts will be published to the new account — not the original one. This can cause posts intended for one account to appear on a different account. To avoid this, delete the brand and create a new one before connecting a different account.

Data that may be lost during disconnection

While existing synchronized data is preserved, some metrics cannot be recovered for the time the account was disconnected. For example:

  • Instagram followers — follower count history is not backfilled retroactively.
  • Instagram Stories — Story data cannot be retrieved for the disconnection period.

See Historical data available for the complete list of metrics that cannot be retrieved before the connection date.

This applies to any disconnection, whether manual, automatic, or during a permission renewal. The longer the account stays disconnected, the more historical data you may lose.

Reconnect the social network the same day to minimize data gaps and ensure your scheduled posts publish on time.

Permission renewal has the same effect

If you revoke Metricool's permissions from a social network and then re-authorize them (rather than simply disconnecting from Metricool), the behavior is the same:

  • Synchronized data is preserved if you reconnect to the same brand.
  • Scheduled posts remain in the Planner but will fail if the network isn't connected at publish time.
  • Some metrics (followers, Stories) cannot be recovered for the gap period.

What to do after a disconnection

Reconnect as soon as possible — ideally the same day to avoid data loss.

Check your Planner — verify that upcoming scheduled posts have enough time before their publish slots.

Monitor for errors — posts that failed during the disconnection period will show error status in the Planner.
