How to verify your user role and permissions
If you collaborate in a shared brand or work as part of a team, it's important to know your assigned role so you understand your access permissions.
Identify if a brand is shared
Shared brands are easy to spot:
Log into your Metricool account
Open the brand dropdown menu at the top
Shared brands display your assigned role next to the brand name (this can be a default role like Manager or Editor, or a custom role)
The role badge next to the brand name shows your assigned permissions at a glance. If you're unsure about your permissions for a custom role, contact the brand owner or a user with management permissions.
Access User Management
To see detailed information about your role and permissions:
Go to the top menu and click the three horizontal lines on the rightSelect User Management from the dropdown menuYou'll see two tabs:
Users: a list of all people with access and their roles per brand
Roles and permissions: a detailed description of each permission type
The User Management feature is only available on Advanced and Custom plans. Free and Starter plans don't allow adding users.
Compare your expected permissions with your assigned ones
Once you're in User Management, you can check if your permissions match what you were expecting:
Search for your name or email in the Users tab
Review the role assigned to each brand
Click the Roles and permissions tab to understand what each role includes
Types of permissions in Metricool
There are three main categories of permissions:
View permissions: allow you to see information but not make changes
Edit permissions: include viewing, plus modifying and downloading
Brand Management permissions: full access to brand configuration, including connection management and user/role administration
If a publishing error occurs, only users with Brand Management permissions and the account owner will receive the error notification. If you don't have these permissions, you won't receive alerts about publishing issues.
How to verify your plan details
To confirm which plan you have and what limits apply, follow these steps:
Open your account settings
In the top menu, click the three horizontal lines on the right
Select Account settings
Go to the Plans and billing section
You can also use the shortcut:
In the dropdown menu, you'll find a direct link to Plan and billing that takes you straight there
Review your plan information
Inside Plans and billing, you’ll see:
Your current plan (Free, Starter, Advanced, or Custom)
Your billing cycle (monthly or yearly)
The renewal date
Your billing history
Options to change or cancel your plan
From this same section, you can download invoices, update your payment method, and edit billing details — all in one place.
Check the limitations of your plan
Each plan has specific limits. Here are the main restrictions of the FREE plan:
You can only connect one brand (you cannot delete it to connect new profiles)
No connection to LinkedIn or X (Twitter)
Limited access to analytics with 30 days of history and a watermark
No report downloads in PDF or PPT

🛠️ Troubleshooting common issues
➡️ I don't see the “User Management” option
This feature is only available on Advanced and Custom plans. If you're on the Free or Starter plan, you won't have access.
If you think you should have access but don't see it, first verify your plan from the Plans and billing section.
➡️ I don't see a section in the top menu (like Inbox, Ads, or SmartLinks)
If certain sections don't appear in your top menu, this is usually due to permissions in shared brands.
In shared brands, the sections you can see and the actions you can perform depend on the permissions granted to your role. For example:
If you only have view-only permissions for the planner, you can see the calendar but cannot create, edit, or publish posts.
If you don't have Inbox permissions, the Inbox section won't appear in your menu at all.
If you lack Ads or SmartLinks permissions, those sections will be hidden from your view.
This is different from your own brands, where you have full access to all features included in your plan.
Permissions are assigned per brand. You might have different roles across different brands, so you may see more or fewer sections depending on which brand you're currently viewing.
What to check:
Check the role badge next to the brand name in the dropdown menu to identify your assigned role.
Go to User Management to review detailed permissions for your role.
If you're unsure about your permissions for a custom role, or need access to additional sections, contact the brand owner or a user with management permissions.
➡️ I can't access features I should have based on my role
If your assigned permissions don't match what you expect:
Contact the brand owner: Only the account owner or users with Brand Management permissions can modify roles
Check your invitation email: The original email shows which brands you were given access to and your assigned role
Ensure you're on the correct brand: You might have different roles across different brands
➡️ I see “Go Premium” even though I was shared a premium brand
This is totally normal. Premium access belongs to the account owner who manages the subscription. If you're using a free account but were shared a premium brand, you'll still see the “Go Premium” message, but you can use all premium features within that shared brand.
Don't worry about the message — as long as you're inside a shared brand with the right permissions, you'll have full access to its premium features.
➡️ I'm not sure who the brand owner is
If you're not sure who the brand owner is, you can check it directly in Metricool by following the instructions in this article:👉 How to see a brand owner
❓ Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I have admin permissions?
Check in User Management whether your role is “Admin” or includes “Brand Management” permissions. These roles let you connect social networks, change brand settings, and manage other users.
How many people can have access to a brand?
There is no user limit per brand on Advanced and Custom plans. Invite as many people as you need.
Can I have different roles in different brands?
Yes. You might be an Admin on one brand and an Editor on another. Permissions are assigned per brand, not per account.
